Granulated onion is made from dehydrated, ground onions; typically the pungent bulb onion variety which possesses a strong odour. Because they’re dehydrated, they have a long shelf life. We like to use them when we don’t have fresh onions available and can adjust the flavour according to taste. However, these are also useful to give a dish a more assertive flavour. Granulated onions are also used in spice blends, packaged meats, canned and frozen foods.
